Permanent Hair Removal

PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL

Permanent hair removal has been the most sought after cosmetic procedure in the United States. Men and women turn to this procedure for various reasons. Permanent hair removal is convenient and the results leave clean, smooth skin. Permanent hair removal is cost effective for many. Waxing can be costly in the long run, not to mention inconvenient and painful.

To date we have several options when it comes to permanent hair removal. Electrolysis has been around for many years and as of late lasers have been the first option to achieve best results. The latest is broadband lighting, and it has been one of the most effective and painless of all the options for permanent hair removal.

With so many choices which one is best for you. Read below and find out more facts about permanent hair removal and the options available today.

PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL THE ELECTROLYSIS METHOD

Electrolysis has been around for long and it is an FDA approved method for hair removal.  It requires multiple sessions for bet results, however, permanent hair removal is not a 100% guarantee for everyone. With this method you will need anywhere from 15 to 30 sessions and it takes a considerable amount of time.

How does electrolysis work?

An electric current is applied with a very fine needle shaped electrode or metal probe into each hair follicle to destroy the root. There are three types of electrolysis: galvanic, thermolysis and blend.

Hair grows in various stages and the treated area must be in active growth stage for the treatment to be effective. At any given time about 30% of the hair is in active growth stage.

Electrolysis Pros:

electrolysis has been around for a long time and it has a great track record
electrolysis works on all skin types, as it does not target pigment, but the follicle itself

Electrolysis Cons:

bent hair follicles are difficult to target, as the case with hair misshaping from previous tweezing and waxing. This may also be the case with curly or wavy hair
multiple treatment are needed: between 15 to 30 treatment, and treatments take a long time as each follicle has to be treated individually.
skin can get discolored, especially if the treatment is performed incorrectly
electrolysis can be very costly
electrolysis is painful

Electrolysis Cost

The average 30 minutes electrolysis cost is $45. This can add up as each hair follicle is treated individually, the treatment can take a long time. This makes Electrolysis a costly permanent hair removal option.

PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL-THE LASER HAIR REMOVAL OPTION

Laser hair removal has been the most common and requested cosmetic procedure in the United States. Shaving, waxing, depilatories can be very time consuming and since the conceptions of laser hair removal,  we find more and more men and women flock to this permanent hair removal option.

How does Laser Hair Removal Work?

There are several laser hair removal options on the market today, however the technology basis is the same for all. Heat energy is delivered to the hair follicle, penetrating it to the root and killing it.

In comparison electrolysis , entails removing each hair follicle by applying an electric current to each follicle. Fine needles must be inserted in each follicle and this can be very painful.

Laser hair removal offers long term permanent hair removal results, it is less painful, less costly, it takes less sessions  and each session takes less time to perform.

Laser Hair Removal Pros:

less costly
less painful
less time
long term results

Laser Hair Removal Cons:

will not work on certain skin types
is not 100% effective/some hair will come back

BBL/IPL  PERMANENT HAIR REDUCTION-BY SCITON

Permanent Hair Reduction can be achieved by light based technology including Laser Hair Removal, or hair removal with Broad Band Light (BBL), or Intense Pulse Light (IPL) technology. At My Petite Medispa, we utilize the state of the art Sciton BBL technology to achieve permanent hair removal.

How Does BBL/IPL Work to Achieve Permanent Hair Removal?

A broad band of light is used to target hair follicles in order that the root of the follicle may be killed. This treatment achieves long term permanent hair removal results. The broad band light targets the hair follicle without affecting the surrounding skin, leaving it intact while destroying the hair at the root. The purpose of the BBL hair removal treatment is to diminish unwanted hair while leaving surrounding tissue intact.

BBL hair removal works by emitting pulses of light into the intended hair follicles. The pulses of light are absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and is converted into heat. The heat generated loosens the hair and disrupts their growth.

How Does BBL/IPL Hair Removal differ from Laser Hair Removal?

BBL or IPL emits light in carefully timed pulses. Laser hair removal works by emitting a sudden burst of energy, thus making the treatment much more painful than BBL hair removal.

Does BBL/IPL Hair Removal Work?

Permanent hair removal with BBL has been proven to be very effective long term. However, no hair removal method is 100% effective. It is more accurate to call BBL hair removal: permanent hair reduction. Once the hair follicle is killed, it will no longer grow.

Does the Hair Come Back Once Treated With BBL Laser Hair Removal?

The hair follicles that are in active growth stage at the time of treatment with BBL hair removal are killed and will never return. Hair that is in active growth stage consists of 30% of all of the hair. This is the reason why multiple treatments are required. These treatments are scheduled specifically to target that active growth phase, until of the hair has been treated.

BBL Hair Removal Pros:

BBL is cost effective
it is fast
it requires far less sessions than other permanent hair removal options
it is far less painful than laser hair removal and electrolysis

BBL Hair Removal Cons:

BBL hair removal does not work on all skin tones and hair color, it is most effective on dark hair, less effective on blonde or baby hair follicles
